Counseling Philosophy
On the simplest level, you would come to counseling because of some discomfort in your life. Your options, also simply put, are to either change within yourself or to change your part in a situation in order to persevere through the hardships (changing someone else is not an option). I view both pathways (often intertwined) as opportunities for you to:
- know and experience God more fully
- accept yourself where you are at, and to mature further still
- learn to love others as God loves them
As we work together on your goals, I will help you to keep an eternal perspective on life and the troubles you face.
In our time together, we will look for patterns that are your strengths and patterns that are your obstacles. For example, you might find that you need to:
- change relational patterns
- substitute problematic beliefs with truth
- exchange harmful behaviors with healthy behaviors
- replace destructive emotions with constructive emotions
My aim is to help you move toward these ends by using a variety of ideas, methods and skills. I work from a Christian worldview and incorporate spiritual dimensions into our work.
With all that being said, it is important to note that I work with all my clients differently. You are a special work of art with unique needs and abilities. My responses to you flow from wisdom (study and experience) and the work of the Holy Spirit within me.
